New Macomb mall adds 20 retailers
The Detroit News
The list of retailers that will call The Mall at Partridge Creek home grew Monday, with mall owner Taubman Centers Inc. announcing more than two dozen additional stores that have signed to open at the new open-air shopping center in Clinton Township.
Nearly half of the newly announced stores and eateries will be unique to Macomb County, and six will be Michigan firsts, Bloomfield Hills-based Taubman Centers said.
Local retail analysts said the array of stores indicates the developer and national retailers have confidence in Metro Detroit's suburban retail market, even as the state continues to lose jobs and real estate values sink.
"There's still a tremendous amount of money in the area," said Ed Nakfoor, a Birmingham-based retail consultant. "People are still shopping."
Anchored by Nordstrom, Parisian and MJR Cinema 14, Partridge Creek is scheduled to open Oct. 18. The Nordstrom store will open in April 2008.

Farmington Hills retail consultant Ken Dalto said Partridge Creek's attraction to retailers reflects the increasing importance of Macomb County consumers to Michigan retailers.
"That's the fastest growing upper-end area in Metro Detroit," Dalto said. "That population can definitely sustain the business."
Nakfoor said Monday's announcement doesn't represent a high-end breakthrough in the regional market, but fills in Macomb County's long-time gap in upper mid-range retail.
"It's not going to represent what Southeast Michigan doesn't have, just what Macomb County doesn't have," he said. "But I wouldn't say that anyone's overstepping the market."
